8 Days Chimpanzees and Gorillas Uganda: Itinerary Overview
Day 1: Transfer to Western Uganda
We transfer from Entebbe to the western region, crossing scenic tea estates and the northern part of Kibale Forest. Here, we pause to observe the forest canopy and search for primates. This area is home to forest elephants, chimpanzees, olive baboons, Uganda red colobus, and more. With over 350 bird species, it’s a birdwatcher’s paradise.
We continue to Ndali Lodge for a late lunch. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon and evening, preparing for the upcoming chimpanzee trek, one of the highlights of this 8-day adventure. Ndali Lodge is perfectly located in the Crater Lakes region, providing a tranquil setting before the next day’s activity.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking
We begin with an early breakfast to set off for the chimpanzee trek. Early morning is ideal to find the chimps still in their nests. We’ll ensure packed lunches are ordered, as we plan to spend more time in the forest.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, we head to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s second-largest national park. The park hosts a variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, hippos, lions, and leopards. We embark on a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. This channel attracts animals and birds, especially on hot days. We check into our lodge for lunch and some relaxation.
Day 4: Cat Tracking
An early breakfast prepares us for the day’s cat-tracking activity. Cats are elusive, and research on lions and leopards is conducted here. By joining researchers, we increase our chances of discovering the behavior and lifestyle of these big cats.
Day 5: Transfer to Ishasha
We enjoy a leisurely breakfast before transferring to the southern part of the park, Ishasha. Ishasha is known for its tree-climbing lions, offering a unique wildlife experience. We explore the habitat and spend the night at Enjojo Lodge.
Day 6: Tree-Climbing Lions and Transfer to Ruhija
After an early breakfast, we go back through Ishasha for another chance to spot the tree-climbing lions. We then transfer to Ruhija, staying overnight at Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge or Broadbill Forest Camp. The gorilla family we track is located at Bwindi’s eastern gate, providing an early start for the following day’s trek.
Day 7: Gorilla Tracking
Today is dedicated to gorilla tracking, an unforgettable experience in the dense Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Meeting the gentle giants is the highlight of a lifetime. After the trek, we transfer and overnight at Buhoma Haven Lodge, closer to Kihihi Airport for convenience.
Day 8: Departure
We have an early breakfast before heading to Kihihi Airport for our flight back to Entebbe, concluding this amazing wildlife adventure.
